Church Damage

Since we have found out that our building is in so much damage we have had to limit it's use due to the weight of alot of people in the damaged building. We knew that the building needed some repairs and we have been saving up for that need. But when we got into the problem we found out that it was beyond repair. Many of the floor joist's are broken and fallen down. The back and side foundation has given away . I have talked with a engineer about the problem and he said that we will have to solve the water problem first or it will continue to cause us problems even if we build a new foundation . In order to do that we will have to tear down the existing building and work on the water problem as we build it back.

When we do that we have to meet building codes for the state. We have to have engineered drawings approved for new plumbing, electrical and structual. This is costs that we never planed for. We have to have a new septic system to meet these new codes also.

Many concerned Pastors and Brethen have ask us just what damage is to the building? We have put these photos together to help explain the damage and what the remedy is to solve the problem.

PHOTO 1

PHOTO 1 : Here is the corner of the Sunday School and fellowship hall. The dirt is level with the building at the corner and higher to the left. We need to have this area excavated and build a concrete gutter to drain the water the length of the building.

PHOTO 2 (looking from the other end of the building toward photo 1)

PHOTO 2: Large rock ledge going the length of the church. This needs to be removed and a concrete Gutter poured to allow for water to run out. The water now is being trapped and going under the buildings causing the damage. At this point we will also need to install a catch basin to be tilled under the sidewalk beside the Church Building to the Road.

PHOTO 3: You can see from this view the building is lower and the parking lot higher. At this point this is where the water is to exit but the water cannot come out and just goes under the Church Building. This has been a problem for years. At this point we are going to put a catch basin for the water to run into and then pipe it underground beside the sidewalk and parking lot. (see Photo 4 for side walk detail)

Photo 4: At the top of the photo you can see the end of the building where the water is trapped and cannot come out. We are doing to remove the hedges and landscaping and run a drain between the sidewalk and building and drain the water to the road.

Photo 5

Photo 5: Previous attempts has been made to reinforce the building but this has failed. This is in the area of the most damage (photo 1 and 6). It seems that each attempt was only a bandade so to speak, it never got to the real cure of the problem. The reason is that the Church didn't have enough money to put toward the problem.

Photo 6: You can see the effects of the buildings foundation and sub structures damage. The weight of the roof is buckling out the siding.

Photo 7

Photo 7: This is the Sunday School, Bathrooms and Fellowship area to be replaced.

Photo 8

Photo 8: This give a more visible view of the whole building. The lower part is the one that needs to be rebuilt.

Photo 9

Photo 9: You can see how the water runs to the building. In the early 1950's when the building was first built they used a team of mules and a plow to cut out a building site and was only limited to what they could do at the time. We thank our Baptist Brethern for using what means they had at the time and giving the people in the Cannel City area a place to worship our Lord in a True New testament Baptist Church.
